The ISC2 AI Course Bundle
ISC2 has been pushing a set of short, self-paced AI courses, and in May 2026 I bought six of them for $512. They are certificates of completion, not certifications – no proctored exam, no capstone, just watch the modules and answer the questions. The content is introductory across the board, the kind of survey you could assemble yourself from a weekend of reading. What you are paying for is the ISC2 name on a transcript and a structured reason to actually sit down and think about where AI is taking the field. As a signal that a security professional is paying attention, that is worth something. As technical education, it is thin. I reviewed each course on its own; this is the overview and the buying guide.
The Six Courses
Ordered best to worst by what the money buys, not by the order I took them:
- Foundations of AI – $128, ★★★★. A history course on AI’s core technologies – expert systems, fuzzy logic, computer vision, robotics, ML, NLP. Dated (it predates the agentic wave), but a genuinely good grounding in the building blocks. Go in knowing it’s history, not the frontier.
- Aligning with Global AI Regulations – $64, ★★★★. The bundle’s broadest regulatory coverage: ISO standards (including 42001 on AI management), NIST’s CSF and AI RMF, FedRAMP, ENISA’s AI cybersecurity directives, and the EU AI Act. Breadth is the design choice and the value – depth on any single document matters less than knowing which ones apply, because the ones you actually have to comply with you’ll read in detail anyway.
- AI for Cybersecurity – $96, ★★★★. The bundle’s best treatment of the AI threat model. A detailed AI development lifecycle walk in the first third – with the honest admission that the right way to manage AI risk is, bluntly, not yet known – and an attacks-and-mitigations section in the second half that is the single most useful piece of content across all six courses. Misses agentic AI, but earns its price on what is there.
- AI Security: Managing Overconfidence – $96, ★★★. Should have been a four. The principle is sound and the blind-spot guidance is the kind a working professional should walk through deliberately. Two problems: it is about organizational overconfidence in AI, not the LLM overconfidence the title implies; and the opening Activision case study does not match the public record.
- Planning for Secure by Design AI – $64, ★★★. Walks the AI development lifecycle: cybersecurity controls, regulatory context, the data risks that make AI a different shape of target, and brief closes on ethics and AI in defensive cyber. The one passage to slow down on is the de-biasing section – it reads two ways, and only one of them is honest about what the model is being asked to do.
- The Evolving Cybersecurity Workforce – $64, ★★★. Despite the title, mostly AI governance and privacy regulation: setting policy, the risks of AI tools, and a sharp warning about shadow AI already entangled in company processes. Non-technical, no surprises for a compliance-minded engineer, but a useful governance primer (Aligning covers more standards and laws).
Verdict
The bundle is worth it for one thing: a low-effort, name-brand way to show you are engaging with AI, plus a forcing function to spend a few hours thinking about it deliberately rather than absorbing it by osmosis. Three of the six earn their place on their own. Foundations of AI is a genuinely good backgrounder on the core technologies, as long as you treat it as history and not a current survey – it predates the agentic wave. Aligning with Global AI Regulations is the right kind of regulatory survey: broad enough to name every standard and law that may bear on you, with enough depth on each to make it comprehensible, and the common principles pulled out. AI for Cybersecurity has the bundle’s best treatment of the AI threat model, with a candid lifecycle section that admits the field does not yet know how to manage AI risk, and the bundle’s single most useful piece of content in its attacks-and-mitigations section. AI Security: Managing Overconfidence nearly joins them – the principle is sound and the blind-spot guidance solid – but two problems hold it at three stars: the course is actually about organizational overconfidence in AI rather than the LLM overconfidence the title implies, and the opening Activision case study does not match the public record. The remainder are competent surveys: The Evolving Cybersecurity Workforce, despite its title, is a useful tour of AI governance, and Planning for Secure by Design AI walks the AI development lifecycle at a checklist level rather than an engineering one, with one striking passage on de-biasing.
If you already work in AI day to day, most of the bundle will teach you little you don’t know – though even then Foundations may fill in lineage you skipped, and AI for Cybersecurity’s attacks section is likely to surprise you in at least one spot. If you want the transcript line and a structured reason to survey the territory, $512 buys you both. Just don’t mistake a certificate of completion for a credential.
